Red Butte Café (UT)

I am a big fan of visiting Utah. I have friends out there and the scenery is spectacular! Colorado and Utah share many similar characteristics so it’s always fun to visit our sister state. While visiting friends I was able to visit a wonderful little café that resides very close to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. I was served by a wonderful and very energetic waitress named Kylie. Let’s see how the Burrito performed!

Tortilla

The tortilla was simple and wonderful. It was folded well and tightly packed. It was clear the tortilla had been toasted slightly which added a nice little flavor to the burrito.

Rating: 8/10

Textures

The textures present in the burrito were tastefully done. The eggs were fluffy and the potatoes soft. The burrito was topped with a queso stuffed chili. The chili was roasted perfectly and contributed nicely to the overall texture of the burrito.

Flavors

Surprisingly this burrito did not contain any meat. I was slightly apprehensive when i first heard this news but it worked out well for them. The burrito was topped with a salsa verde on one side and a salsa rojo on the other. It was a fun little adventure in flavor to have the two salsas complimenting and contrasting each other. On the top of the burrito was a stuffed chili that was an excellent addition to the flavor of the burrito. All in all, even without the meat, this burrito had a wonderful flavor.

Use of Potatoes

The potatoes were tastefully done. They were soft and not overdone in quantity. That being said there was nothing special about them. They were very similar to most breakfast burrito potatoes.

Smother

The two different salsa smothers made for an interesting combination of flavors. I’m very accustomed to full bore pork green chili covering the whole burrito. This was a nice respite from the normal and I applaud them on breaking forging a new path for smothered burritos!
